Readings from the Divine Comedy with music interludes (language of the reading: Italian)
															IL CONTRAPPASSO
dura lex, sed lex
Readings from the most famous Canti of Dante’s Inferno. The voice of a single actor, with live music accompaniment, retraces and animates the places and characters of Dante’s Inferno, bringing the verse into an intimate and everyday dimension. Dante Alighieri, in the Divine Comedy, embarks on a journey through Hell, Purgatory and Paradise, a symbol of the human soul in search of redemption. The Riviera of Ulysses, with its coasts and legends linked to the journey of the Homeric hero, becomes a symbolic setting which symbolizes the idea of a journey towards knowledge, purification and salvation. Dante draws on the literary and mythological tradition which makes Ulysses an archetype of research and disobedience. His figure, intrinsically linked to the Mediterranean culture, can be seen as a forerunner of Dante’s journey: they both face a journey through mysterious and dangerous worlds, in search of a deeper meaning of human existence.

Giuseppe Pestillo graduated in acting at the Silvio D'Amico National Academy of Dramatic Arts in Rome and in Music Theater Direction at the Frosinone Conservatory. Since 2003 he studied and deepened with Alessandra Niccolini the Mimic Method created by Maestro Orazio Costa Giovangigli. In 2011, he specialized in Commedia dell'Arte at the Higher Artistic Training course promoted by the Teatro Argentina in Rome and attended courses of acting in Spain and in the United States. Among his numerous work experiences he participated in the 53rd Spoleto Festival as the main character of the comedies written by Alan Ayckbourn; he performed in the film by Alessandro Aronadio presented at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2010, and in various television works produced by RAI. As a director, in recent years he curated the following projects: “The fairy queen” by Henry Purcell for Le Giornate FAI at the Villa Gregoriana Park in Tivoli; “The coronation of Poppea” by Claudio Monteverdi for the International Baroque Music Festival of the city of Faro (Portugal); “La Boheme” by Giacomo Puccini for the Licinio Refice Conservatory. In 2017 his project “Who’s there? Shakespeare Festival” was selected and published among the “100 Stories of creativity 2017”. Giuseppe is the creator and promoter of various cultural projects, including: the “Beltempo Casa delle Arti” center; the theater work “Teatro Maestro”; the series of conferences on the new Italian dramaturgy “Il giovane teatro italiano”; the first edition of the “Fondi Jazz Festival” and the summer performing arts festival “In arte Signor Pi Greco”.

Sandro Sposito undertook his musical studies under the guidance of his mother, a pianist and teacher. As a teenager he started playing the guitar and he graduated in Music and Performing Arts (DAMS) at the University of Bologna with a thesis on the Methodologies of Musical Education. He subsequently attended the Orff Schulwerk courses, obtaining a qualification for teaching music disciplines in secondary schools and then he specialized in teaching disabled students. To this day, he still carries out teaching activities in public schools and music associations. In 2007 he obtained a Master’s Degree at the Frosinone Conservatory of Music and, from 2011 to 2016, he collaborated with the Roma Tre University, Faculty of Educational Sciences, on research projects entitled "Pedagogical and methodological investigations for the enhancement of music learning" and "Storytelling techniques". In 2015 he created “Musiche Inclusive”, a project of social inclusion through music for minors in situations of marginality, poverty and disability. In 2021 he collaborated for the first time with actor Giuseppe Pestillo to creat the music for the readings of Dante’s Divine Comedy on stage until January 2022.
We recommend arriving by 5:45 PM to allow time to walk from the parking area to the Porticciolo. The reading will take place directly on the beach, so bring towels, cushions, or beach chairs to enjoy the evening! The performance will be followed by a tasting of local food and wine, offered in collaboration with Gastronomica – Festival del Gusto and Slow Food.
